A beautiful colonial building houses this small, delightful; hotel. We stayed in the Presidential suite and found it very comfortable and quiet. It is walking distance to all the interesting sites in Oaxaca and the hotel can arrange trips to Monte Alban and Mitla. We were lucky enough to see the Easter processions. The breakfasts are delicious and the swimming pool very welcome.
Just slightly inconvenient that the room was cleaned in the late afternoon when we were having siestas!
Enjoyed our 2 week stay at the charming CasAntica very much. It is very conveniently located in the historical center, a couple of blocks from both the Zocolo and the Alcala walking district leading to the beautiful Santo Domingo church. Met my friend in Oaxaca and we shared a nice "jr suite" (meaning it was a larger room with 2 double beds) on the 2nd floor overlooking the courtyard restaurant. The room was very clean, the beds new and comfortable, the air conditioning appreciated. We were sheltered from the street noise and typical Oaxaca political protests going by, but could hear festive socializing when larger groups gathered in the evening in the courtyard. They typically went to their rooms at a reasonable time and it wasn't a problem. The desk staff, housekeepers and bellmen were all very nice and helpful when needed. The onsite restaurant/bar was good and convenient when we didn't feel like venturing out. The restaurant staff provided very good service. The pool looked great and was well used, but we never got around to it. We had a rental car for visiting the many interesting markets and ruins in outlying villages. The hotel has an arrangement with a garage for a nightly fee. When you want the car you merely tell the desk and the car is delivered to the hotel, and when you return, you leave your car in their saved spot, and the it is returned to the garage for you. Very convenient.
The hotel itself was perfect.
The surrounding area was extremely loud throughout the night.
Staff were welcoming and very willing to help. A cool sanctuary from the hectic bustle of Oaxaca outside the front door; even has a small swimming pool inside the inner courtyard. Had a lovely suite with all mod cons and space to relax. Food and drink good and reasonably priced. Wished we could have stayed longer!
A fantastic place to stay right in the heart of Oaxaca City. It is a beautiful building with added bonus of a swimming pool (which is rare in Oaxaca). The staff were all really nice and helpful too. We can't wait to return!
Room was quite small - but that is common in these sorts of buildings in Mexico. Other than that - nothing!
Excellent service from staff, small rooms but with all amenities and keeping Oaxaca's style which is splendid. Hotel is a block away from the Zocalo and all historic things in the city.
The personnel was excellent. So helpful. They changed us room twice in order to satisfy our needs. The ancient convent is very beautiful…breakfast is very good. Internet works perfectly. The pool is also very nice.
Many rooms don't have windows…it is an ancient convent...
The hotel is a very nice renovated colonial building. It is centrally located. It was a very close walk to the zocalo, Plaza Santo Domingo, the central market, and other tourist areas. Staff was very informative and helped arrange transportation to go on our own to tour Monte Alban, Milta, Aguar Ardiente and other interesting sights. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. I had a complaint about the noise from a nightclub next door and they did everything possible to move us to a better location. Our new room was in the 500s and it faced the patio which was very nice and quiet. They have a nice small pool, which was great to go to in the evenings. They have free wifi, which is pretty good. I would stay there again, I would just make sure the room was in the 500s away from the noise.
The hotel includes a free breakfast which was terrible! The eggs were dry and the cheese in the omelettes cold and wasn't even melted. The coffee was undrinkable, it had no flavor. The fruit and juice portions are tiny. Overall, the quality of breakfast was terrible. Oaxaca is a state that produces coffee and they could not serve a decent cup. When we complained, the response we got was that's what you get with the free breakfast or you can pay extra for better coffee from the machine. Very very disappointing. Also, if you stay in the 200s rooms, you are close to a night club and you can hear the noise until 3AM. The rooms in the 500s are a much better location and very quiet. My friends booked directly with the hotel, offered to pay cash, and they got a much better deal than we did on Booking.
A very good location and, as an old convent, an interesting building with a light airy feel to it. A good breakfast to start the day.
The rooms we had were rather small and window-less ( nuns cells?).
location - the best! very pleasant architecture / style
our room [standard double] was very small and had no window [they pretended it had one, but it gave to some interior closet] bathroom very small breakfast offering was varying depending upon the day: sometimes this bread was included, sometimes they would charge extra for it
Noisy at times but when we did complain staff immediately responded
we enjoyed being on the top floor; we felt very private. if you need an elevator this floor is not for you
the hot water took a very long time to reach our room. the only negative with many positives
Great location in the centre of the city. All the major restaurants, markets and shops are within easy walking distance. Staff are all very friendly and helpful. Hotel has a very nice relaxed feeling about it and is very comfortable and clean.
Bathrooms are a little small.
The people in this hotel were so friendly and nice. No snobbish. No attitude. Everyone from the front desk to the wait staff to the maids were exceptional. Over the top helpful. And the other guests were friendly also. The hotel has a courtyard at which to gather and have breakfast or just hang out and a lovely pool. The beds were more comfortable than the old Mexican beds of a hard board. In fact they were comfortable. CasAnica is an old convent and although the rooms were small they were well appointed. The breakfast was decent. My double capachino wasn't included but they made one for me every morning and it was great and only cost me $2.00 US. the rest of the food was quite good also. CasAnica is a charming place with charming helpful people.
The pillows were lumpy. They were a step above the usual hotel pillow ( not a slab of foam) And there was an attempt to make them fluffy, but they were lumpy never the less.
Good location, lovely building, but ...
They tried to give me the broom cupboard room (no window, etc). When I said it was unacceptable, they did immediately give me a better room. Also, the breakfast is served not help yourself, and the service was dreadful. One morning I gave up on waiting and went elsewhere for breakfast.
